About us
The African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET) is a not-for-profit network of Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Programs (FE(L)TPs) and other applied epidemiology initiatives across Africa. Since its establishment in 2005, AFENET has partnered with ministries of health and key stakeholders to strengthen public health systems, improve health outcomes, and support countries in meeting IDSR and IHR requirements.
With over 40 programs across the continent, AFENET operates as a collaborative platform connecting governments, multilateral agencies, academic institutions, and NGOs in advancing health security in Africa and beyond.
AFENET Nigeria operates within this broader network, delivering in-country impact through the training of frontline epidemiologists, support for immunization programs, and the strengthening of disease surveillance systems. Its footprint spans states such as Yobe, Bauchi, Kano, and Sokoto, contributing to a more responsive and resilient health workforce.
Looking ahead, AFENET and its country programs remain focused on strengthening surveillance systems, expanding laboratory capacity, addressing non-communicable diseases, advancing Universal Health Coverage, promoting One Health approaches, and driving research and innovation.
