LAUNCH OF SCALES 3.0 STRATEGY: ACCELERATING INTEGRATED COVID-19 VACCINATION AND PHC SERVICES IN NIGERIA
AFENET participated in the official launching of the SCALES 3.0 strategy for COVID-19 vaccination held in Abuja on August 8, 2022. The SCALES 3.0 strategy, an initiative of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), aims to ramp up COVID-19 vaccination across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory with integration of routine immunization and other PHC services. The event attended by government dignitaries, donor agencies and implementing partners was chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and the Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha
SCALES is an acronym for Service delivery, Communication, Accountability, Logistics, Electronic management of immunization data and supportive supervision. Since the commencement of COVID-19 vaccination in Nigeria, the government, through NPHCDA, with support from partners including AFENET, implemented strategies ensuring all eligible Nigerians have access to the COVID-19 vaccine.
Prior to the launch of the SCALE 3.0 strategy, AFENET also successfully conducted a capacity building of Primary Health Care (PHC) workers on the SCALE 3.0 strategy across the 36 states in Nigeria and the FCT. A total of 5,770 health care workers were trained in readiness for a successful implementation. Since the commencement of COVID-19 vaccination in Nigeria, the government, through NPHCDA, with support from partners including AFENET, has implemented strategies ensuring all eligible Nigerians have access to the COVID-19 vaccine.
