AFENET Support to COVID 19 Response in Nigeria

Capacity Building

AFENET supported the development of training materials for NPHCDA command centre on COVID-19 preparedness and response guidelines for health care workers and community volunteers. She also supported NCDC to develop COVID-19 surveillance training modules for healthcare workers and facilitated in the national and subnational training. The staff at the national, state and LGA supported the training of healthcare workers and community volunteers on COVID-19 preparedness and response guidelines; state and LGA rapid response teams; laboratory scientists for sample collection; and health workers, isolation center staff, burial teams and ambulance drivers. In Borno State, AFENET provided additional training support for UNHAS, airport staff and military on infection prevention and control, while in Jigawa state, additional training was provided to health workers on IPC, surveillance and SORMAS. AFENET was also involved in training and deployment of 41 African CDC community health workers for active case search.

PHC Support

AFENET Nigeria provided technical support to the National Primary Health Care Development agency in implementing PHC capacity building in Kano, Ogun and FCT. AFENET provided technical experts that were developed and reviewed the training modules used to build the capacity of the PHC workers on COVID-19. They also provided manpower to conduct the national TOT on COVID-19 response in PHC setting.

 

Financial Support and Processes for the COVID Response

AFENET Nigeria acted as a fiduciary agent for a number of funding support to the national response by providing a robust, efficient and seamless financial management system to support the response at various levels.. AFENET was responsible for the management for the Revolving fund for the outbreak investigation and tracking of accountability to ensure compliance with the Donor requirements. She also provided financial guidelines in respect to different Donor funds.

AFENET was also charged with the logistics support in respect to flight booking, hotel reservation were necessary and timely notification of the field staff on the amount disbursed and on how to account for the funds. We are followed up with field staff to ensure that reports of the activities were submitted timely.
