Background:


The African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET) is a non-profit organization established in 2005 with a
mission to improve human health through the strengthening and expansion of applied epidemiology and laboratory capacity in partnership with Ministries of Health/National Public Health Institutes, Non- Governmental Organizations, international agencies, private sector, and other public health agencies.


Azithromycin Mass Drug Administration has been proven to save lives rapidly, cost-effectively, and equitably, particularly in high-mortality settings. This intervention contributes to reducing preventable childhood deaths and achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3, which aims to eliminate preventable deaths in children under five and reduce mortality to fewer than 25 deaths per 1,000 live births by 2030.


Nigeria since 2020 have been part of the Resiliency through Azithromycin for Children (REACH) Network under the leadership of the Federal Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Gates Foundation, Nigerian Institute of Medical Research and implementing partners. The SARMAAN I project was implemented across selected states with mass administration of Azithromycin to children aged 1-11 months. Findings from the project led to the commencement of SARMAAN II project with a target to children aged 1-59 months.
AFENET is implementing the project in Zamfara state.

 

Position Description:
The State Field Coordinator will coordinate project pre-implementation, implementation, and post implementation activities in the state. This role is instrumental in ensuring that the project is carried out in an accountable manner, with the provision of technical support to the state and LGA teams to ensure seamless integration and alignment of project activities with the polio immunization activities. The State Field Coordinator will provide oversight functions across all the implementing LGAs in the state ensuring project activities are carried out within approved timelines.

This position is a 1-year contract, with the possibility of extension based on project needs, performance and availability of funding for the project. The expected start date is 01 March 2026.
