Lagos State AIDS Indicator Survey (LAGAIS) is a population-based study which aims at describing HIV epidemic, assess utilization of services and provide useful, actionable data to guide HIV response in Lagos State, Nigeria. In preparation for the main survey, a pilot survey was conducted in November 2017.
Trained research assistants visited and collected data from 240 households in six Enumeration Areas (EAs) in five Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Lagos State over four days (23rd – 26th of November 2017). The selected LGAs were Agege, Badagry, Ikorodu, Mushin and Surulere.
With effective supportive supervision from dedicated and experienced supervisors drawn from the LAGAIS Survey Implementation Team (SIT), AFENET, Federal Ministry of Health, LASUTH, FHI, APIN among others, data was collected. They also carried out HIV counseling and testing with samples sent to the Satellite laboratory and the Central Quality Control Laboratory (CQCL) for confirmatory test; gave verbal results of the HIV test and referred/linked all consenting respondents to services irrespective of outcomes.
