October round of State Immunization Plus Days (SIPDs)
In line with the overall objective of eradicating polio from the country, NSTOP supported the government to conduct the October round of State Immunization Plus Days (SIPDs). The exercise was held in 18 northern states, Abuja inclusive, with over 100 MSTs employed and deployed to support the campaign in hard to reach areas because “The child is our concern, no matter where he/she lives, we will go”. The exercise ran for 6 days and was made up of pre-implementation, implementation and post implementation activities.
During the implementation phase, Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) and other antigens were administered to children using the house to house and fixed post strategies. The campaign targets children aged 0-59 months because they are the most vulnerable group.
