AFENET Nigeria hosted the new Executive Director, Dr. Chima John Ohuabunwo and his team to Nigeria

It was an honour for AFENET Nigeria to host the new Executive Director, Dr. Chima John Ohuabunwo and his team to Nigeria on a working visit. Dr. Chima, who assumed this position on August 1, 2017, said he is excited to be in the country as this is his first visit as the ED of AFENET. He commended staff for the good job being done and reiterated the importance of team work as nobody is less important- “Everybody’s job is important. With the combination of strong teams in Nigeria and Uganda, the sky is the limit.  We should continue to put our best in our various fields so as desired goals could be achieved”.

The ED subsequently met with graduates of NFELTP and gingered them on the importance of building a formidable group of health workers and disease detectives as it is the only means of changing the face of emergency response. He also stressed the importance of team work and growth as it is an avenue for the younger ones to grow and change the face of outbreak response and other health indices in the country. Finally, he commended graduates for the good work being done and shared AFENET’s intended plan of forming a “corps” of disease detectives that can be used at any time especially for outbreak investigation.  He said a database would be created where records of all works embarked upon by FELTP graduates would be lodged.

The ED who was in country for a two (2) day working visit, met with other government functionaries, Donor Agencies and Implementing Partners to foster a better working relationship and also seek for areas of collaborations. Some of the areas or offices visited by the ED were: Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Federal Ministry of Health, US Centres for Disease and prevention, National Primary HealthCare Development Agency.
