Inactivated Polio Vaccine Introduction Training in Taraba State
As part of the polio endgame strategy, Nigeria in 2013 subscribed to the decision to use IPV for routine immunization. The primary role of IPV is to maintain immunity against type 2 polio virus while removing OPV2 globally. The state level training for IPV introduction in Taraba state took place on the 12th and 13th of June 2015 while the LGA training took place on the 15th and 16th of the same month. One hundred four participants from the sixteen LGAs were in attendance. The Participants were the Directors of Primary Health Care, the Local Immunization Officers, the Cold Chain Officers and the Health Educators. For the LGA level training, two participantseach from health facilities offering RI participated in the training with quality supervision from both national and state supervisors.
During the state level training, NSTOP presented laptops to the five LGAs where it is presently supporting with polio eradication initiative. This is to help the LGAs facilitate quality data management. The LGAs involved areGashaka, Kurmi, Sadauna,Takum and Ussa. The LIOs received them on behalf of their LGAs.
