Core Competencies

One of the main goals of FELTP is to develop its Residents’ competence in practical applications of epidemiologic methods to a wide range of contemporary public health settings. In order to meet that goal, the program has developed a framework through which to describe the major training requirements and expectations.  The Core Competencies refer to the areas of knowledge in which Residents are to demonstrate proficiency both during the program and ultimately throughout the Residents’ careers.

These areas of proficiency are demonstrated through the Practical Outputs. This term refers to the actual assignments which have been developed specifically to demonstrate the Residents’ progress towards understanding the Competency subject area.

Below is a chart demonstrating the relationship between the Core Competencies and Practical Outputs. The last column indicates the year and quarter in which the program suggests each product is completed. Copies of all outputs must be submitted both to the field supervisor and the academic supervisor.
