How to Apply

Prospective candidates can apply for one of three Tracks: the Masters of Public Health in Field Epidemiology, the Masters of Public Health in Laboratory Epidemiology and Management or the Masters of Public Health in Veterinary Epidemiology. The degrees are granted either through Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria or the University of Ibadan.


Program eligibility (for both universities)
The NFELTP focuses on training persons who are or will become field epidemiology leaders at Federal and State levels.

General requirements for all candidates (regardless of track)

  1. Candidates must satisfy the matriculation requirements of the university (including required credits of English in O’ level results) as well as the requirements for the postgraduate school. Candidates should check the university website for further details.
  2. Accepted candidates will be required to sign a contract committing them to remain in government service for a minimum of five years following graduation.

Specific requirement (depending on track)
In addition to the requirements listed above, candidate for the different tracks must also meet the requirements listed below.


1) Field epidemiology track

Candidates should have at least

  • MBBS/MBChB, BDS degrees with certification from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria
  • Two-years experience in a related government position (with evidence of confirmation)
  • Recommendation from the Head of Department/Ministry where the candidate is employed

2) Public health laboratory epidemiology and management track

Candidates should have at least

  • BSc degree (with a minimum of second class upper division) in microbiology or relevant subjects
  • Certification from the Medical Laboratory Science Council ofNigeriaor the Veterinary Council ofNigeria
  • Have a minimum of two-years experience in a government laboratory (with evidence of confirmation)
  • Recommendation from the Head of Department/Ministry where the candidate is employed

 3) Veterinary epidemiology track

Candidates should have at least

  • DVM degree with certification from the Veterinary council ofNigeria
  • Two-years experience within the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources or other relevant State Ministries/ Parastatals (with evidence of confirmation)
  • Recommendation from Ministry or parastatal where the candidate is employed

Application process

  1.  
    1. Get an application form from the Postgraduate office of the University of your choosing.
    2. Pay the application fee of N 10,000.
    3. Submit the following documents to the Secretary of thePostgraduateSchoolof the University by the required deadline:
      1. Completed application form
      2.  Photocopies of relevant credentials and academic transcripts
      3. Formal statement of at least 250 words explaining the applicant’s educational and career objectives and how those objectives correspond with the NFELTP
      4. Authorization/recommendation letter from the applicant’s employer stating that the applicant is granted permission to enroll in the program

Examination and Interview Process
Selected qualified candidates will be invited for an enrollment examination. Candidates who pass the examination will be interviewed by the FELTP Selection Committee for final recommendation.
The selection committee will assure balance and equity in recruiting and selection procedures; it will consist of representatives from the following organizations: Federal Ministry of Health, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, University of Ibadan, Ahmadu Bello University-Zaria, and CDC.
